Do you still need your softener ? Depends on how hard your water is . Merlin limits the hardness to ten grains per gallon. Does your water contain Iron ? Do you have rust stains on your plumbing, in the sink. Some additional pre-treatment may be required. If you have excessive sediments or suspended solids such as clay and iron, you know its stuff that clouds your water and never seems to settle out, you will want a slow sand filter. You'll find that adding the optional membrane flush kit makes this best unit in terms of anti-scaling and long life.

The unit installs outside the house or in the garage. The pure water pressure pump is actually suspended inside the storage tank. There is even a safety that will prevent the pump from running dry. This is an on-demand system that senses water flow and kicks on automatically when you hop in the shower, run the dishwasher or washing machine or open up a hose valve. Yes the Merlin shuts itself down wasting no water at all when the unit is not needed.
The unit includes a float valve that controls the operation of the Merlin (non electric) and a pump-up" switch that activates the pure water pump. When the water level goes down, the float valve activates the Merlin until the pure water storage tank is full of purified water again.
The maintenance can be as simple as replacement of the Merlin carbon block pre-filter every six months. GE Warrants the Merlin for three years and the rest of the unit comes with a 1-year warranty on all parts.
